Cows, like humans, are well-known for their maternal instinct. They form a strong bond with their calves right after they give birth. So, when humans take them away, both mother and calf are heard calling for each other in distress. People even have witnessed mother cows chasing after a trailer carrying their calves away. They are left alone grieving for days after this happens… just to repeat this all over again.
“Calves of dairy cows are generally separated from their mothers within the first 24 hours after birth. The majority of the milk thus enters the food market and not the stomachs of the calves.”
